IPIC Arena extension

This project is the expansion of the IPIC Arena, that includes the enlargement of the two main entrances and the addition of a gymnasium and office spaces to the existing building.

The volume definition is characterized by two hollows that define a new threshold. The intrados of the two hollows is covered by a massive texture in contraposition with the framing façade of the main volume, which is a recall to traditional Islamic Masharabya. The main façade is composed by metal profiles which deform in specific points giving dynamism, transparency and the opportunity to use a very effective night lighting system.

The two hollows characterize the volume and evoke Islamic features, like the relationship between full and empty, mass and transparency and light and shadows.
