Dubai’s new waste-to-energy plant aims to treat approximately 6,000 tons of solid waste every day (1.88 million tons per year), with a total capacity to generate up to 193 MW of electricity. It will be the largest Waste Management Center in the world with five process lines with a capacity each of 1,000 tons per day, which will operate on a single site and will be able to supply power to 135,000 homes, or approximately 2% of the annual electricity consumption in Dubai. The total area is 506,096.14 square meters. The project consists of two distinct areas: one houses the industrial buildings for all the process related to the waste treatment, while the other houses the non-process or administrative buildings and related parking areas for employees and workers. There is also a
labor accommodation building for the employees. The design of the non-process buildings also includes the development of a landscape project with a particular focus on the tree species suitable for the desertic climate of Dubai. It was also developed the internal road project and connection with the existing system at the executive level, as well as the study of traffic and signage. The new plant has a strong industrial character, which has outlined its shapes and volumes. The materials and colors used for the process area are mainly metal sheets in gray colors, while warmer colors and more natural finishes has been used for the administrative part to better mitigate it within the context.
