New multipurpose Hub

The new Operations Hub was conceived to relocate Aprica’s activities outside the city centre, freeing up strategic urban areas and consolidating public utility services in a location directly connected to the main transport infrastructure. The project thus transforms a predominantly technical and logistical requirement into an opportunity for urban regeneration and the creation of a distinctive architectural identity.

The complex brings together administrative and operational offices, staff facilities, a canteen, workshops and warehouses, as well as dedicated areas for vehicle washing, storage and technical systems. The layout is organised around a large central yard, designed to ensure clear and safe circulation for vehicles, employees and materials.

The main building provides the development with its most recognisable architectural feature. Its geometry responds to the alignments of the surrounding context: the façade facing Via Cremasca slopes and rises, transforming the industrial volume into a dynamic landmark visible from both the high-speed road network and local routes. On the motorway side, a continuous green sheet-metal screen visually unifies the service buildings while shielding the operational activities from view.

The building envelope expresses the different functions through specific materials and finishes: precast concrete for the workshops and warehouses, ventilated façades clad in profiled metal sheeting in shades of green for the administrative areas, and timber elements that clearly identify the entrances. Horizontal bands with varying profiles and curvatures create an ever-changing surface, while north-facing micro-sheds provide natural light and ventilation to the workspaces.

Sustainability is fully integrated into the architecture. The project incorporates heat pumps, energy-monitoring systems and a photovoltaic system, and aims to achieve LEED BD+C Gold certification for the offices, canteen and changing facilities.
