La Spezia Centrale Station
The area falls within the railway zones and conservation areas of the Umbertino district. The passenger building is subject to cultural heritage protection. Mobility is predominantly pedestrian and bicycle-based, and the project envisions improved accessibility and the expansion of the bike-sharing system.
The redevelopment project of La Spezia Centrale Station aims to create a transit hub that is not only functional but also welcoming and respectful of historical heritage, enhancing the existing architecture and improving accessibility, safety, and aesthetics. La Spezia is a strategic node for the Tyrrhenian connection between Pisa and Genoa and serves as a gateway for tourist flows to the Cinque Terre.
The main objectives include the functional and seismic redevelopment of the Passenger Building, the restoration of valuable architectural elements, the upgrading of facilities, and the creation of a bicycle station.
The intervention involves enhancing the existing structures: the platforms will be paved and covered to ensure greater protection and aesthetic continuity, while the underpass will be equipped with tactile pathways and new rainwater drainage systems, ensuring comfort and safety. Universal accessibility is central to the project, in line with European and national regulations, to eliminate all barriers and make the entire area easily accessible to all travelers.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of this redevelopment: by adopting low-impact materials and efficient resources, the station transforms into a structure that respects the environment and integrates harmoniously into the urban context.
This transformation goes beyond technical aspects and seeks to redefine La Spezia Centrale Station as an inclusive and modern infrastructure, combining functionality and hospitality, preservation and progress, in a space that reflects and enhances the local area and community.
