Longarone - Zoldo Station
Located along the Padova-Calalzo railway line, the station is situated in the municipality of Longarone, an area characterized by buildings constructed after the Vajont disaster of 1963. There are no environmental, landscape, or historical constraints, but the area is subject to railway protection regulations.
The redevelopment project aims to make railway infrastructure more accessible, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. This vision transforms the station into a place that goes beyond mere transit, becoming a meeting point, an intermodal hub, and an invitation to explore the city.
At the heart of the project is the enhancement of the station square, envisioned as both a transit area and a gathering space, where pedestrian zones, vehicle traffic areas, parking spaces for cars, bicycles, buses, and electric vehicles coexist in a harmonious and fluid system. Light-colored paving, designed to reduce the heat island effect, enriched by low-growing trees and green areas, helps create a more welcoming and livable microclimate, inviting people to linger in an environment where nature and architecture engage in balanced dialogue.
The Passenger Building undergoes a careful renovation that redesigns the facades with materials such as grey stone and composite aluminum panels, restoring aesthetic dignity to the structure. Inside, a reorganization of the spaces modernizes the waiting room and technical areas to offer travelers a more comfortable experience, with the addition of accessible services and commercial spaces that enhance opportunities for rest and shopping. The ground floor is also raised to meet accessibility standards, in a gesture that is not only technical but also symbolic – elevating the travel experience to a level of greater inclusivity and hospitality.
The redevelopment of the railway platforms introduces non-slip materials and tactile pathways, ensuring safety and autonomy for all passengers. The central island, fully accessible via the new underpass, features a modern canopy that provides protection from the weather while maintaining visual integration with the surrounding environment. The underpass, connecting the station to the eastern part of the city, is designed with generous width to facilitate smooth movement and meet the needs of all users, thanks to the installation of elevators.
Water and energy resource management completes a project that is not just about architecture but also an invitation to reflect on a more responsible relationship between infrastructure and the environment. Through this redevelopment, Longarone station transforms from a simple transit point into a space that welcomes and celebrates the community, with an aesthetic that draws from the area’s history while looking to the future with sustainable and inclusive sensitivity.
