Codogno Station
Codogno Station, located along the Milan-Bologna railway line, is already a crucial node in the network of connections shaping the present and future of cities. This project aspires to restore its central role – not only physically but also culturally – in the imagination of those who pass through the station daily.
The redevelopment project focuses on enhancing Codogno Station’s historical heritage while modernizing its structures and services. It is not merely an infrastructural intervention but a transformative vision of the journey itself – an invitation to make every passage, pause, and wait a more comfortable and meaningful experience.
The external areas, particularly Piazza Cadorna, will serve as both transit zones and meeting points. Transforming the parking lot into a social gathering area is not just about improving safety but also symbolically reinstating the social and communal value of public space. New bicycle shelters, parking spaces for electric vehicles, and designated spots for disabled travelers reflect a broader vision of care for both people and the environment. The optimized traffic flow encourages the adoption of new mobility solutions, reflecting the growing ecological awareness of our time.
The Fabbricato Viaggiatori (Passenger Building) will undergo renovations that preserve its essence while offering a contemporary reinterpretation. The restructuring of the interior spaces, the addition of a new waiting room, accessible restrooms, commercial spaces, and a café with an outdoor seating area embody a philosophy of hospitality and openness. Externally, the façade will be restored to its original symmetry. The first floor, designated for technical facilities, will integrate seamlessly into the vision of a station that functions not only as a transit hub but also as a dynamic and livable environment.
The interventions on the railway platforms and underpass extend beyond simple refurbishment – they represent an act of care. Modern finishes, gres flooring, and tactile pathways are not merely aesthetic choices but functional elements designed for a more accessible and convenient experience, meeting the needs of all travelers.
Sustainability is more than just the use of natural and recycled materials – it is a long-term vision that respects the land and its resources. By utilizing locally sourced, low-impact materials, the project aligns with a philosophy that extends beyond individual interventions, envisioning a station that not only welcomes but integrates into a larger, more balanced, and environmentally conscious urban ecosystem.
