Potenza Superiore Station

The station is a major mobility hub along the Foggia-Potenza railway line, serving predominantly non-commuter users. It is located in a residential area near the city center and is part of a multimodal mobility system, connecting to urban and regional transportation networks. The building has been under monument protection since 2018, and the project must respect landscape and cultural heritage constraints. 

Objective of the station redevelopment project: to enhance accessibility, safety, and aesthetic quality. The entire project is shaped with deep attention to context, respecting the local urban characteristics and the surrounding historical and cultural heritage.

The external plaza will be transformed into a space that connects passengers with the city, redesigning access with wider pedestrian areas and organized paths for various modes of transport, including private vehicles, public transit, and bicycles, reflecting a renewed intermodal vocation. Bicycle and car parking spaces will integrate with covered waiting areas and safe pathways, inviting citizens to experience the station not just as a transit point but as an extension of public space.

Inside, the Fabbricato Viaggiatori will undergo integrated restoration to preserve its historical architectural elements while redesigning the spaces to offer new services and improve functionality. The interventions aim to eliminate architectural barriers, making the station accessible to everyone. Spacious areas and clear pathways will allow passengers to navigate intuitively.

The underpass will be reimagined to ensure safe and comfortable use, featuring new flooring, carefully designed lighting, and tactile paths for visually impaired individuals. Modern elevators will be installed to seamlessly connect the various platforms. The addition of new canopies is a key feature of this renovation, providing travelers with protection and safety regardless of weather conditions.

A strong focus on sustainability characterizes every stage of the project, implementing energy-efficient solutions such as photovoltaic panels and environmentally friendly materials in line with Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM).

Through these interventions, Potenza Superiore will not merely be a station but a place of connection, exchange, and civic identity – a space where architecture meets the needs for functionality and beauty, merging the efficiency of modern transport with a sense of belonging to its land.
